Sleep Better and Longer Naturally Without Drugs
Sleep is very important to our mind and body. Being deprived of sleep can be critical to our well being. To sleep better is a good goal. One of the most frustrating things that can happen to many people is not being able to get a good night's sleep. Many are resorting to taking prescription sleep medications and they have found that they cannot sleep without them. The kind of sleep you get with prescription drugs is not the same kind you get with natural remedies. It is important to sleep better naturally. The amount of sleep that is recommended is between seven and eight hours a night. A nap can be counted as part of our sleep time. When our body does not get rejuvenated, it cannot function properly. Our thinking process is slowed down and our digestive system is disrupted. Over the years I have used many natural methods for falling asleep easily and I have never taken prescription sleeping pills. I sleep better and my body and mind is better for it. Below I have listed several good sleep inducers which I have used successfully: Chamomile tea My Grandma told me about this tea. She even put it in my mother’s baby bottle to help her sleep better. It was diluted way down with water and my mother slept like a baby (excuse the pun). My mother also gave it to me and my sisters when we were babies, and we also were able to sleep better.Chamomile flowers first came from the Nile Valley of Egypt 1000 years ago. It was prescribed in Egypt as a cold remedy, for back pain, nervousness and to help insomnia. The most popular known health benefit of Chamomile tea to help relax and get a good nights sleep. The flower contains a natural form of tryptophan, a well known sleep inducer. Chamomile tea has been a blessing to help me sleep better. Tranquil Sleep by Natural Factors This product is recommended by Dr. Michael Murray, a leading authority on natural medicine. A fast acting chewable formula, Tranquil Sleep combines a unique group of natural compounds that support relaxation and enhance sleep quality. This product has helped me to sleep better. Hylands Calms Forte The Hyland Company has been around since 1903 and Calms Forte has been in existence for 50 years. It says to take 1 to 3 tablets 30 minutes before going to bed. After taking them, I start yawning and I am ready to sleep better.Batherapy I have used a product called Batherapy, a natural mineral bath salts that bathes away aches and pains and relaxes tired muscles and reduces tension to enable you to sleep more soundly. Also, another product called Aromatherapaes is pure botanical essential oils which are blended into earth minerals for an ultimate bathing experience. Bathe in it just before you go to bed for a wonderful restful nights sleep.Rescue Remedy This is a homeopathic remedy that is used for stress. It says to put 4 drops into a small glass of water or 4 drops directly under the tongue. Nutmeg Nutmeg contains compounds called phenylpropanoids that help you stay asleep. You know how sometimes when you wake up and cannot get back to sleep, nutmeg helps with this problem. Stir 1/2 tsp. of nutmeg into milk or decaf herbal tea and drink it before going to bed. Warmth on the chest Something I read to sleep better and tried is to put a hot water bottle on your chest when you go to bed. The warmth gives a wonderful comfortable feeling and it helps to drift off to sleep. You can also use one of those neck wraps that you put in the microwave for 2 minutes, in the same way on the chest, it works as well. I do not recommend a heating pad because of falling asleep so fast, you may not be able to turn it off and thus leaving it on all night for too much heat. Count backwards from 100 to 1 Sometimes when I am busy writing and then go to bed, lots of ideas come to me while I am trying to go to sleep. I tried counting backward from 100 and found that I have to concentrate on the numbers. It has worked for me many times to sleep better. Milk We should not forget to mention the old remedy of a glass of warm milk before bedtime. Sometimes, I would make a cup of Chamomile tea and put some milk in it.Also, remember that a good pillow is essential for your neck when you are sleeping. If your neck is not comfortable, then it will be stressed and you will not sleep well. We use Isotonic pillows from Bed, Bath and Beyond. The model we like is "Indulgence" because it is the one with a gusset. The gusset keeps the neck comfortable for those people who sleep on their side. It feels like down, sleeps like down, but it is not down. We love this pillow. Most of the other products listed can be purchased at a grocery store nutrition department or a health store.
