Thirteen Essential Vitamins Your Body Needs To Keep You Feeling Well
Posted On 2010-07-25 , 7:29 PM
What are vitamins? Do you take them? In the past I would take them sometimes, and other times not. I knew that I was not a very good eater, and that I did not get all of the nutrients that my body needed, but I was not educated enough to know which vitamins that I should take
People live all day long in their own body, yet very few of them know how their body functions. They eat food because they are hungry, or want something with a certain taste, but usually do not even think about what reactions are going on in their body because of what they are putting into their mouth.
The human body is complicated, and it has many functions going on at the same time, such as the respiratory system, circulatory system, digestive system, nervous system, and the system to remove the waste products. In order for each system to function properly, the body needs the intake of vitamins.
Vitamins are necessary to make molecular reactions to happen, and when broken down they help the different organs function better. The foods people eat have vitamins, but without eating the proper nurishing foods, most people do not get all the vitamins they need. Scientists have been able to produce vitamins in their laboratories, so now people can get the vitamins they are missing through taking a pill.
Through research, it has been discovered that the body needs thirteen important molecules for it to function properly. That is how they came up with the recommended daily intake of certain vitamins that are essential for good health. Vitamin A is a necessary vitamin that can be found in foods, such as squash, or carrots. Too much vitamin A can cause your skin to turn yellow, or orange, but not enough vitamin A will result in night blindness, so make sure you eat plenty of carrots.
For optimum health it is important to take a good B-complex supplement, because there are many different B vitamins, and lacking them can cause many unnecessary problems. If you do not get enough of vitamin B1, or thiamine, you can get beriberi, a very debilitating disease. Vitamin B2, or riboflavin, like the other B-complex vitamins, is necessary for a properly functioning immune system.
One of the reason people are so riddled with diease these days, is because of a weak immune system, caused in part by not getting enough B vitamins. Vitamin B3, or niacin, is needed for the growth of young children. A lack of this vitamin will cause pellagra. Another important B vitamin is pantothenic acid, or B5. Along with helping in growth, and the immune system, it also gives the body strength and energy, and is even a pain reliever. A deficiency can lead to a disease called paresthesia, which causes numbness.
Vitamin B6, pyridoxine, like most of the B vitamins, is needed for growth and development. Too much, can cause eye disorders, but too little will result in anemia. B9 or folic acid is necessary for pregnant mothers to prevent birth defects, and vitamin B12 or cyanacobalamin, helps proper development, and lacking it can cause anemia.
All of the B vitamins are important to have a healthy functioning body. The remaining essential vitamins are vitamins, C, D, E, and K. Vitamin C can be found in many fruits and vegetables, and a lack of this vitamin can cause scurvy, and a damaged immune system. Vitamin D works with calcium in developing and maintaining strong bones, vitamin E is needed for regenerating cells, and it helps with antiageing. Vitamin K is needed for blood clotting and healing.
A balanced diet will give people the necessary vitamins their body needs for proper growth, and well being. What you do not get in your food, can be added through vitamin supplements. The earlier people start a healthy nutrition program, the sooner they will get a healthy body, and the longer it will remain that way.

Natural Health Works For Me
Posted On 2010-07-25 , 7:20 PM
Why should you be interested in natural health? A few years ago I was asking myself the same question. When I was growing up in Montana, my life was consumed with sports. I liked being athletic. I did well in school, but my mind was mostly on playing basketball, or going golfing.
I was not interested in how my body functioned, or what type of food I should be eating. My mom liked to bake, so my eating habits were not the best, in fact I never had a piece of whole wheat bread until I was 25 years old.
The good thing was that no one in my family smoked or drank, so I never had to deal with either of those problems. I did learn early in life to drink Pepsi, and if I would have known back then what it was doing to my body, maybe I would not have had so many. When you are young, not much time is spent thinking about how you are going to feel when you are 60 years old. Old age probably would be easier for most people if they realized what they were doing to their bodies with some of the choices they were making early in life.
Playing sports, I always had some minor hurts, but they become magnified with age. Arthritis is something that most people have to some degree when they get to a certain age, and the sad thing is that a lot of it could have been prevented with better choices.
Everyone has heard to drink more water, but how many people actually do it? Usually, only fitness fanatics. The human body is composed mainly of water, and as it is used up, it needs to be replenished. I always thought that I was quenching my thirst by drinking pop, but never really considered how many impurities I was putting into my body.
Most people in the world are not drinking enough clean water to have their bodies function efficiently. It is like your car not running on all cylinders. The interesting thing is that it is such a simple remedy. Just start drinking water throughout the day, and you will feel better, but you will also have more energy.
Eat your vegetables is something that most children are told, but never really why they should. Since heating food above 116 degrees destroys most of the nutrients, and most people do not eat enough raw vegetables, it is no wonder we live in a sick society.
I am not good at eating vegetables, but I have found that it is very easy to juice. With juicing, the combinations of fruits and vegetables can be such that you can find a taste that you can drink. The benefit of juicing is with raw foods, you sre getting all of the live nutrients. The simplest way to regain good health is through juicing, especially a lot of greens. Wheatgrass is one of the best greens for getting necessary nutients.
I was a professional golfer, and a house builder, so I have always had a high level of physical activity. I do not know what it is like to be a couch potato. It is not difficult for me to exercise, or walk wherever I need to go. Exercise is important to have a healthy life, but you need to start slowly, and build up to more vigorous exercises. To remain healthy into old age, find an exercise that you can do consistently.
Life is difficult most of the time, but if you can find a goal, a reason to live, and then think positive thoughts, speak only good things, and surround yourself with happy positive people, life will be so much more enjoyable.
Now that I am older I am interested in feeling better, and in being in better health. I am glad that I do not have any prescription drugs that I take. A doctor wanted me to take high blood pressure medicine once, but I decided that I would rather use natural health means. I am glad that I did.
On our website you will find many things to help you lead a healthier life.

Why I Believe In Holistic Or Alternative Medicine
Posted On 2010-05-18 , 9:10 PM
What is alternative medicine and how will it help you? What some call holistic health, which includes acupuncture, yoga, vitamins, massage, and more, is different than the modern medicine that exists in the United States.
In this country we are used to the typical practice of doctors, who examine the patient, makes an evaluation, with or without tests, and then takes the findings to determine which prescription drug to give the patient, or which surgery is needed. In all of this, the doctor is in charge, with the patient having very little input, other than trying to explain the symptoms he or she is having.
Have you ever tried to disagree with a doctor. Many do not even want you getting a second opinion. Your health does not seem to be the doctors top concern, A doctors office sometimes looks like an assembly line. How many patients can we run through today?
The holistic health practitioner is totally different, in that the concern and involvement of the patient is much more important. Holistic doctors see themselves as educators, teaching people how they can heal their own body, since the body is capable of doing the healing without the need of outside influences.
The reason why so many people are against holistic health, is that the patient is required to be involved, and usually must make lifestyle changes, removing bad habits, such as unhealthy eating or drinking habits. Most people would rather take a pill than change their lifestyle, or admit that their health was their own responsibility.
Why would you not want to change your lifestyle if it made you feel better? Why is it so hard to look for information to improve your health? If you are reading this, then you must have some interest in your health.
Making changes is easier, the more life-threatening the disease. How many people will stop smoking when they get lung cancer, but not before? How many people give up sugar, when they find out they have diabetes? How many people change their diet, finally, after they have a heart attack?
There is so much information about how to life a healthy life into our retirement years, but most people still have a painful existence, taking numerous prescriptions, to look forward to. We are so brainwashed into believing whatever happens to us can be fixed with a magic pill, and insurance will pay for it.
Quite often, people do not even look at alternative medicine until they have something wrong, and their insurance will not cover it. Then they look for a less expensive way. Or maybe, they finally look for a different way, when they have given up hope in the medical profession.
Either way, it is usually something dramatic that causes a person to change from their "trusted" family physician. Looking at life from a holistic perspective, means that you see yourself as more than just a body. You have a mind, and a spirit, that also need to be taken care of.
How many things that happen to our body, are caused by something in our mind or our spirit. In this country, the doctor sees his patient as the disease he or she has. The patient is sent to a psychiatrist, if he or she has a mental problem, and to a spiritual adviser, if the problem is in the spiritual realm.
Alternative or holistic medicine, understands that human life is more than just a body. To solve a persons problem, it is best to know the underlying cause of the problem. If a person is overweight because they eat too much of the wrong foods, to solve the problem seems simple. Stop eating the wrong foods, and start eating the right ones.
But it might not be that simple. What is the cause of overeating the wrong foods? Worry causes more diseases than almost anything, and if it is not the cause, it certainly makes everything worse. But what is the cause of worry, and how do you get rid of it? A pill is not necessarily the answer.
Western medicine has a role to play in the health of a nation, but a holistic approach seems to be a better way in almost all instances. A healthy nation would be a more productive nation, so would it not be in the best interest in all of us to become more healthy.

Healthy Minded Peoples Blog

Healthy Minded Peoples Blog
Welcome
If you are here at my blog, then you must be interested in improving yourhealth and well being. Nothing matters, not money, wealth, position or fame if you do not have your health. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "The first wealth is health."
Many years ago, people treated their health differently. My grandma was a very healthy person, who never went to a doctor in her whole life until she was 89 years old and when she was given a drug for some malady, her body did not react to it in a good way and she was finished, only to be put in a nursing home with very little life left. All her life she had grown her own vegetables and herbs and lived off the land. She taught me about herbs and how to eat the proper foods.
Today, we go to the grocery store to get vegetables and fruits.....and the fruits we get were picked really early and have lost a lot of flavor and nutrients. The vegetables are sprayed with bug killers so the crop will not be lost. In the meantime we get half grown sprayed foods and they can not be filled with all the vitamins that are needed. Because of that reason, I take a daily vitamin. Years ago I read that when we take a daily multiple vitamin, usually they are a solid large pill and many times it does not break up completly when we take it and we do not get the full benefit of the vitamin and just gets flushed down the toilet. The study said to take childrens or adult chewable vitamins.
I have a juicer and I get as fresh as possible fruits and veggies and try to have it at least 4 times a week.
The first step to maximum good health is to decide to have it. We must really want something for ourselves because that is the start to actually doing it.
Do you have trouble sleeping? I have used Chamomile tea to help me get to sleep. It has a natural form of trytophan. If you do not want to drink anything before bedtime, then the option is Hylands Calms Forte or just Calms. I started yawning 30 minutes after taking 2 or 3 tablets.
I appreciate you coming to our site...and good luck with your goal of having good health.
